Hometown Purse Trade

topic posted Wed, January 24, 2007 - 9:24 AM by  Anne
It's the first trade of 2007.

(TADAAAAAAAH!)

HOW TO PARTICIPATE (please read carefully):

1. Tribe Message me (Anne) with your mailing address, and email address by Monday January 29th. If I do not receive those two pieces of information via tribe message, you won't be signed up. Responding in thread does not count, do not pass GO, do not collect $200.

2. On January 30th, receive the mailing address, Tribe name and profile link of the person to which you are sending your item.

3. Now think about your hometown: what makes it famous (or infamous)? what does it look like? smell like? sound like? what does it mean to you? Think about how you can create a purse that embodies your village, city or town. Will it be a subtle nod to the sights and sounds of Hometown, USA/CANADA/UK? or is it an unmistakable homage to the biggest brightest symbol of your town?

4. Your materials should cost between $0-10.00.

5. Ship it to the address you've been given by February 15 (or as close to that as possible). If you are going to be late or some kind of disaster has struck, then please contact me or your trade partner. If you are very very late, unresponsive or just plain flaky, you will likely be removed from the tribe. That would suck.

6. Wait for your little lump of crafty pursey goodness to arrive.

Any questions? Message me.

I have the handle done!! I will get the rest done, just have to sit at the machine and it has been too cold. I am sooooo cheap, I refuse to turn up the heat and try to spend as much time in one room with the door closed as possible. But it is warming up outside, so started on the rest of the purse last night. The handle is really, really cool though!!

mine went out in the mail today. So heads up Kathleen. I had to get on mine quickly because The only day I was going to have was Sunday. During the week I don't pull out the sewing machine, and do much crafty things. I get home too late from work and am ready to crash. Next weekend we are taking care of Mia who is 2 so no crafty goodies going on that day. therefore if I was going to have it done on time I had to work on it Sunday. I am a procrastonater so is cool to be finished. I did start on it as soon as I knew what kind of a trade it was. Being hometown was able to start instantly with ploting my design early.

This was a fun one hope everying is enjoying their creativity

Anne's making arm warmers! You need to wear those things over to my house when you're done.

I am having trouble getting my purse out of my mind and into reality. I should just start building rather than conceptualizing and fretting.

We'll see what glorious or hideous creation comes out of it.

I just want to say that though I was unable to participate this time round, I absolutely love this idea. It is a wonderful challenge. I started imagining what I would make. I hope this theme can come round again. I had been looking forward to a purse trade so you know I'll be bringing it up again!

Speaking of buckets, I just got the cutest apple bucket purse from Patty! I'll post pics soon. It's a red wooden apple bucket with apple print fabric and strap. Just adorable! It's even got my initial! She also included some info on her hometown. She's right, I probably won't use it as a purse, but it'll be perfect for those tender fruits I pick up at the Farmers' Market during the summer! Thanks, Patty!! I'll try to finish yours this weekend!

I have pictures but they are on my computer at the shop so can post pictstomorrow. My Apple basket purse is because our little town of 2500 people host a one day Old Tyme Apple Fest. the 1st Saturday in October and this little town grows to over 30,000 people. I had this fruit basket left frome Christmas so nothing could be more appropriate than a basket of apples purse. I knew it wouldn't be carried around as a purse but will make a great work tote or a number of other uses for a basket. I do hope that you will be able to use it for something I did very much enjoy making it.
