Okay, so I'm mulling over ideas for the next trade. I was thinking it would be nice to do at least one trade that would be about donation or fundraising.
I was thinking of www.projectlinus.org/faq.shtml I bet we all have some idea for a blanket, quilt, afghan, etc. There are even no-sew options.
Or traders could make almost anything to be sold through Crafters United and Etsy www.craftrevolution.com/donate.htm
What do you think? Yay or nay?

I am definately down to donate to either of these. It would be a wonderful way to get back to my quilt making and give something back. YAY ANNE!!

You are so sweet Anne. I already do the Project Linus thing, but I would like to do an ornament trade. I am a Jewish/Wiccan/Buddhist, but I still celebrate Christmas! Any holiday that involves decorating, baking, dressing up and lots of candy has my vote.

Unsu...
Have project will trade ;)
I am down for anything. I have sold a few things with Crafty Revolution on etsy. They are great to work with and really great communication with the artists. -

Yay! I'm glad there's interest. This would probably be more of a craft-a-long rather than a trade. That means, we would agree on a deadline, post photographs, and then send out the items for donation.
I'm leaning toward the Linus Project because I have the urge to make a quilt. But there's no reason why we can't do LP and Crafty Revolution at the same time. Let me know what you think and I'll post the info in the next day or two. -

Hello Ladies and Gents.
I've been letting all of you wither on the vine. I'm so sorry for my neglect. A new job as well as the holiday season has totally sucked up my time. Excuses, excuses!
Anyway, is there anyone else interested in leading a trade this month? It doesn't have to be holidayish, but it could be. Heck, we could also just take a break (I'm sure we're all busy crafting for the holidays) and I'll be up for putting together something in the new year.
Any suggestions? opinions? -
-
hi, anne! hope your new job is a good one.
i was reading the thread in CV about what we don't throw away and had an idea, although it would mean double postage.
Crafter A assembles 10 items that she's been hoarding to make something with and sends them to :
Crafter B, who must make something and send it back to Crafter A. so maybe A to B and B to A, to avoid confusion and so the person gets their "stuff" back. whaddya think?
i would be interested in a january trade, not this month. -

ohmygawd, that is brilliant! basically "hiring out" our craftiness... this takes in account some of our best traits:
- we all have too many good ideas to have time to do
- we are all very resourceful in finding clever materials
- we all have at least *one* project ready to go
- we never have time to actually *do* that project
- we will do crafting for others before ourselves
let's call this the "First Step" Trade... Where we admit that we are powerless to the crafting bug, and learn to take it one project at a time...
Perfect for the first month of the year...

I agree. Fabulous idea Teknomomma. In the New Year's spirit of cleaning out the old (to make room for the new!), let's do it.

Oooh - I like that idea!! What a wonderful way to share craftiness! I just want to make sure of the dates for this one. I am finishing up Nikis items that were lost in the mail - I should be done by this Friday. After that I am starting on gifts for xmas - so I would need to know when this one is so I can plan my time accordingly. I love the trade idea!!
-
-
first step, huh? i hope you don't think there's a cure! :D
so, i was thinking that some of the items shouldn't be obvious "craft" items, at least not to the recpient...
so, if others like this, who organizes? me? -
-
I like the idea. I just don't know if I totally understand it.
So I grab some supplies and send them to my trade partner and then that person makes an item for me and sends it back.
So do I also get supplies to make something for somone?
It seems really interesting.
I get a lot of craft supplies for free from friends and family and sometimes at yard sales I'll buy a whole box of craft stuff just to get one item from it.
I'm rambling but what I'm saying is: I have craft supplies that I don't use because they are for crafts that I don't normally do. Like knitting or crochetting. I have hundreds of skeins of yarn and nothing to really do with it.
It would be fun to find someone who has beads to send me so I can make a piece of jewelry for them and I can send them some yarn so they can make me some crochetted or Knitted item.
Is this how it works? Or am I just too sleepy to understand? -

I think we might want to take this trade as a challenge.. to try something out of our comfort zone in 2006.
However, I do think there might be some parameters set for the project. Here is my suggestion:
We might define two categories of entry: "Popular Crafts" or "Challenge Me".
When you sign up to accept a Popular Craft, that might be: knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, beading [the group can decide this set of choices].
If you choose the "Challenge Me" level, you don't know what you will get ... it might be stained glass, polymer clay, make your own shoes, etc. I think I have an old batik kit around somewhere, I know someone might want it. And a make-your-own-bra kit. And a burned velvet kit.
So, when you sign up, please indicate what kind of kit you will create [Popular or Challenge] and what kind of kit you want to receive [Popular or Challenge]... Anne can team up members appropriately.
That is my suggestion. What does everyone think?

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.I like that idea. I was trying to come up with some way to match people appropriately. A bag of yarn, a box of mosaic tiles, etc could totally overwhelm rather than inspire.
I'm thinking along these lines . . .
When folks respond they can tell me what they're thinking about shipping out and the craft skills they have. Then I can do a little matching. It'll still be a surprise, but (hopefully) no one will get something that will block rather than inspire them. what do you think? -
-
i like that too. i think what i was originally thinking is that people might use the supplies in a way the original owner had never thought of or other than what they were originally intended for.. that's the challenge categorie, i guess. kind of vague. which is why i've left it in more capable hands!
