Re: Where's my traders at?
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 5:37 AMIts been a busy Spring. Been working on glass to sell every spare moment I have. I am working on a purtse trade with a friend in Calif. Both of us have either been too busy or too sick to get much done on it. I need to put that on the top of my list and leave the glass alone for a day or 2.

Re: Where's my traders at?
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 9:09 AMI've been doing lots of costume trading amongst my fellow dancers. With all our performances coming up, we are trying to get ahead by doing most of the work now.
My most recent project was panel skirts for all the girls made out of recycled Indian sari silk woven into rag rug style fabric. We bound the edges with different colored bias tape for each girl. They turned out beautiful. Will be working on fire crowns for us all next.

Re: Where's my traders at?
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 4:07 PMI just got reminded that DemiCon is in three weeks - I've got a costume, a coat, some hats to make to sell and a panel presentation to write between then and now.
Just a wee bit to do- but I got the latest orders out, so I'm happy.

Re: Where's my traders at?
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 8:57 PMI have been making monochromatic collages (not in photoshop, real collages).
I recently purchased a new digital camera, am learning how to use it and taking a few photos!!!
Any ideas about putting fabric on a wall?

Re: Where's my traders at?
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 11:58 PMHow big a piece do you want to put up? What's the makeup of the wall?
I've seen them staple the cloth - or glue the cloth - directly to the wall if it is plasterboard, bt if you have older walls (lathe and plaster) I wouldn't suggest it.
You could make a frame and stretch the fabric over it, stapling it to the back.

Thu, April 26, 2007 - 8:58 AMWhat pin said, frame and staple
I have been making jewelry and quilting. And working. And sleeping. Mostly working and sleeping, really. -

Re: Where's my traders at?
Thu, April 26, 2007 - 11:29 AMMost of the trading spaces I've seen used staples covered with a flat trim. What about upholstery tack strips? A stiff strip of metal you hook your fabric onto, then can tack to a wall. It'd lay flat against the wall.
I've been busy with school. First year at a brand new school is a LOT of extra work! NOt much else fun or creative except some dishtowels! -

Re: Where's my traders at?
Thu, April 26, 2007 - 11:30 AMThat's staples directy into the wall. It'd look more like a wall treatment than a wall hanging. Depends on the look you're going for.

Re: Where's my traders at?
Wed, June 6, 2007 - 10:50 PMoh boy, I missed this. Thanks so much for cheering me on. It means a lot to me.
Sorry I missed that lucky numbers trade. I was just looking at the pictures in the album. It would have been a nice one to be a part of.
After looking at those, I decided that I don't care how much of a dissarray things seem to be in, I want IN on the next trade! It makes me happy to do, and happy is GOOD!

Re: Where's my traders at?
Sun, June 24, 2007 - 2:01 PMI knew if I even checked in on the last one I'd join in and really didn't have the time! But, school's out and I'm back from my trip, so I'd be up for the next trade.
Some ideas I had were a paper doll trade, a voo-doo doll trade (paper voo-doo dolls?), a collage trade (maybe people trade clippings and partners make collages for each other out of the scraps provided.)
Thoughts? I'd like to do something that would finish before the end of August, so I'd have lots of time to work on it before school starts again. -

Re: Where's my traders at?
Sun, June 24, 2007 - 7:04 PMThere's a whole other kind of paper doll. Check out these:
www.art-e-zine.co.uk/dolls.html
Kind of more collage than clothes. Could be a combo of the collage and paper doll trade. Partners send clips to each other and then collage a paper doll from the clips. It'd be fun to take it a step further and have people send clips of something they'd like to see happen in their lives, then the partner makes a doll from that idea and the clips. Sort of a voo-doo/collage/paper doll! Too weird? I'll do it as a side trade if not everyone is interested. -
