I know we have all probably done this before and listed our special talents. Can we do it one more time, please? I'll start...
Beaded Wire Art
Terra Cotta Sculpture
Quilting
Mosaic
Decoupage (sp?)
There are two talents that God did not see fit to bless me with and they are drawing and singing - well.
I will try anything at least once. If it inspires me, I tend to go overboard (or is that obsessive?) and have to make a gazillion all at once. Or at least have everything I would need to make a gazillion.

well, i think i would call mine dabbleties, not specialities, but....
painting and finishing rustic western stuff my husband builds
rubber stamping
scrapbooking
collecting way too much stuff for future projects
repurposing objects
very interested in collage at the moment
-
I am fortunate to be very creative...
collage, found objects, writing, concepts, design, embrodiery, sewing w/beads & sequins, batik, 3D, 2D, drawing, life drawing, digital - photoshop, macrame', funky jewelry, shrinky dinks :), nature, spiritual - voodoo - magical art, photograhpy, painting, cut paper, scratch board art, pen & ink, etc.
I am good at combining things to make something new.
We have very talented people here.
-
Jewelry: Beaded (Seed/Czech Glass/Crystal), Wire, Wire-wrap beads, Loom (Some but not really good), Native American (Bone, Crow Beads).....(The list goes on.) I still want to finish learning how to make gold and silver jewelry.
Native American Crafts: Chokers, Breastplates, Armbands, DreamCatchers, Mandellas,Raw-Hide-Drums, Clothes, Katchina Dolls, Medicne Bags, etc.
Sewing: Clothes, Costumes, Accessories, Pouches, Purses, etc. (I haven't figured out quilts yet but I'm interested.)
Silk Flower Aranging (Boquets and Swags mostly).
Bead Creatures: Gators, Snakes, Butterfly's, Lady Bugs, etc.
I tend to get bored with everything (Crafter's Block) and go to the craft store and pick up a couple kits. If I make the item really well and it seems fun...I start making them from scratch (Find interesting pieces to add and change the craft...make it my own). Then I buy as much stuff as I can get my hands on for a good price and make as many as I can stand. Then I usually get bored and either go on to something else or back to one of my original crafts. I'm always looking for something new to learn. I'm always willing to teach someone who wants to learn.
-
pattern making and sewing - only costumey and fun stuff though
some jewelry
hair ornaments
painting and drawing
make up - I know this may not be crafty but I think of it that way
-
ummm..
I like to experiment and try something new each week. This week I did painting, woodwork, jewelry making and decoupaging. I am fairly creative and come up with lots of ideas. I love trying to figure out how to make them. I make soy candles, candy, jewelry, cross stitch. I attempted to learn to knit but got really frustrated. I am afraid of sewing machines, because I thnk i will sew my fingers together. I hign school I decoupaged my all the walls of my bedroom. I don't know. I am a jumbled person.

I think I've had my hands in just about every craft I can think of, because every time I hear of a new one, I just have to try it. So the list may be long...
Drawing, Painting (oil and acrylic), Murals, Sculpting (just about any medium I feel like at the time...), Ceramics (hand-building and wheel), Some woodworking, Beading, Jewelry of all sorts, Carving, Paper mache, Herbal concoctions, Scrapbooking, Hand-made journals, Welding, Stained glass, Sewing, Costuming, Reconstructing clothing, Wire art, Computer design and website construction, Poetry, Tile and glass mosaics, Henna tattooing, Body painting, Dancing and choreography, Creative Gardening, etc... this is all I can think of at the moment, although I am sure the list is incomplete.
Things I still want to learn: quilting, crocheting, embroidery, and more... -
-
I go in and out of crafts but mostly focus on knitting and making collages out of found objects. I keep a day journal which includes writing and objects from my day, which helps me remember what's going on in my crazy life :) I am also a photographer and am hoping to do some travel photo journal classes soon... once I find the time to travel!
I would like to learn to crochet and am hoping to refine my sewing skills someday. -
-
Mostly I do fine guage wire wrapped jewelry. Crochet here and there but my strong suit is definately jewerly. I use 30-18 guage silver or gold filled wire with semi precious stones, fresh and cultured pearls, and silver or gold findings. My specialty is small, dainty, very feminine jewels.

I am a Graduate Gemologist student at GIA (should graduate in 2006)...so I have great knowledge in diamond and gemstones. My love, however, is vintage jewelry. I repair and restore what I can to original condition and can date many pieces. What I can't fix gets new life as something else using my silversmithing, beading, and creative skills.
So if anyone has a piece of Grandmas jewelry that needs some help...let me know :)

I think I'm with tecknomama w/ the 'dabbleties'!
For sure I'm good at Making Jewelry (mostly PMC at the moment), I can knit animals and balls for baby gifts, sew with polarfleece and make cute little sweaters with my rad serger!! love that thing!, make sock monkeys, draw, paint, photoshop.
I want to learn wire wrapping, silk screening and welding. I yearn to paint again. I'm trying to get back into it. -
-
do things i have attempted that only turned out ok count? lol!! i have tried my hand at many a craft but i seem to do best in the following:
garb making-skirt or shawl anyone :)
beaded necklaces, anclets, and belly chains
mask painting (still trying to figure out feathers and how to paper mache my own)
baking or gift in a jar crafts
leather working (with help from my very talented man)

hey ladies...
i crochet: toques (winter hats for non-canadians), arm cozies, scarfs, bags, shawls/ponchos (made one so far)
i sew/crochet: water bottle bags and wrap around pants... working on new sewing ideas too....
hemp necdlaces, beaded necklaces.... -
-
Hi Jerri-Lee - they call toques beanies here. I love the strange looks I get when I call them toques. They don't know what parkas are either.
-
-
huh... i think it's sort of weird.. i mean i don't think of us as "that different".... maybe we can spread the words "TOQUE" pronounced.... tuke, parkas are winter jackets... for those that don't know.... :)
love -
-
spelling neighbour, favourite and colour on tribe is funny. try to work those int every post, along with toque and parka. then, while they are scratching their heads trying to figure out what we're saying, we take over. heehee
-
-
Not so fast, tEk. I live in Texas and I know what a toque and a parka are. As a matter of fact, I have one of each.
So there! You won't be able to pull the toque over my eyes! -
-
rats. my cunning plan is in ruins! i'll hafta come up with something better. how about we play celine dion over and over until they all run screaming...
-
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.Ooo I got one - spelling check - cheque.... not to mention the pronuciation of "Z" Zed/Zee
-
-
French won't work either. I can recite and pronounce the French alphabet, including "r, t, u, and z". As a matter of fact, instead of singing the English ABC's to my kids, I sang them in French. (Don't ask me why.) Anyway, I don't speak it well anymore since it has been several years since I had a need to speak it, but I can still read and comprehend 80%.
And I'm not gonna tell what other 20% is. I also like Celine Dion.
Sounds like it is time for plan C. -
-
hmmm, suzanne you are just too clever for us. also, i forget did we meet b/c of some smart alec comment i made about celine dion?
anyway, i give up. you'll just hafta invite us over. -
-
You gave up too easily. Other than having a friend in Quebec (pronounced kay BEK, correct?) I am fresh out of all things French or Canadian.
You and all your friends are welcome ANYTIME! Just name the date and I'll throw the laundry in the bathtub, sweep the dog hair under the rug, and put away the plastic dishes. I might even spring for the kind of wine that comes out of a bottle instead of a box.
BTW, thanks for introducing C&B to me. Had some great exchanges with her already.

Mostly I make hemp jewlery, and crochet beads, it's all I brought with me to college. I'm working on a quilt while at home, I buy picture frames and make them interesting, I try to sew, that's all I can think of that I do repeatedly, there's other stuff that i'll do on a whim.

Unsu...
I'm with teknOmamma - I'm into dabbleties. I've dabbled a lot with various jewelry. I can't tell you my latest recycled material for bracelets because my friends would then know what I'm up to. hee hee hee
I've also dabbled with polymer clay, paper (you can make neat beads), crochet a bit etc -
-

HMmmm...I don't know what counts for me as I am a professional jeweler and textile designer. So I don't have time to dabble, unfortunately. I work in silver, gold, platinum. Hand print velvets and make ceremonial smudge fans. I have everything put aside to scrapbook but time. I do trance dance does that count? I feel very one sided compared to the rest of you!

How do you make beads from paper?!?! asked the bead obsessed college kid
This could be a CV post if you don't want to go off topic. -
-
Unsu...
The way we made paper beads was to make a long triangle of pretty colored magazine paper (say 1/2" wide and 6 inches long). Start rolling at the wide point, around a toothpick or nail, and add a dab of glue at various points as you go. When you've rolled all the way to the end, add another dab of glue to cover the tip so it won't unravel. Then, slide it off the nail or toothpick. Last, you can shellac or decoupage it to seal it. The main secret is not to use too much glue at the beginning or your paper gets soggy & you can't get it off the nail. The narrower and longer your paper, the rounder the finished bead. Wider and shorter will make a long skinny bead.

I mess around with a lot of things, and some I do better than others, but mostly I make things for gifts and for around the house, usually something eclectic...I like taking instructions for one type of project and turning it into something curious for myself. So, I'm sure this list won't be all inclusive but...
crochet
sew (very primitively)
bead
jewelry
colored pencil and pen and ink drawing
gift books
decoupage, you name it I've probably covered it...LOL
christmas ornaments, all kinds
recycled things
pouches and bags
decorative painting
wreathes
flower arrangements
origami (mostly cranes and stars and boxes - little things)
home decor
and I write, mostly poetry, some short stories
I also facepaint, do hair wrapping, and do lots of creative crafting with littles.
okay...well that's a start...
-
beaded jewelry like earrings and necklaces; etched mirror and glass; polymer clay jewelry; woodburning on wood and gourds (hope to grow some this year). So far that is all I am really into, I dabble in some scrapbooking and gardening but not much. Oh, and I love to paint just about anything! Indoors, outdoors, watercolor, oil or acrylic! I also recycle small jars and make them into candle lamps.

OK, I'm a big-time dabbler in:
Polymer clay
PMC clay when I can afford it
Calligraphy
Computer modding
Photoshopping
Woodworking
I want to do some stuff with EL wire & LEDs at some point. I also used to crochet, but I haven't done that much lately. I'd really love to learn how to weld, sew, do stained glass & knit, but that'll have to wait for another life I fear.
-
Paint, sculpt, digital photography and layout and design of newsletters and other documents. I'm just learning to Sew and Crochet. UM, I really thought I was much more creative than I sound.... ugh! Oh, I also write moody poetry and lyrics.
-
-
OK, OK. It took me a while, but here it is:
I have lots and lots of "dabbleties" (I love that word!), but since I'm now living in a much smaller space (and lots of my stuff is still in storage) I have really narrowed down what I do recently.
Right now, I'm mostly just doing work with polymer clay, making jewelry, SMALL sewing projects (no machine right now, so only handwork), and a lil' bit of sketching/drawing.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE doing more serious metalwork (soldering, casting, and the like), but I am TOTALLY not set up to do that kind of thing anytime soon. :(
I also love making costumes and masks....
